Darlene Myrick started her own business, Resumes, Etc., at only 25 years old. She has always had a passion to help others be their best self, which led to an impressive career as a an Adult Ed Instructor at a technical college in southern California. Darlene also worked in vocational rehabilitation where her accomplishments resulted in new placements for individuals that believed their working days were over. She lived with her husband and son in southern California until April 1995 when Springfield, Missouri, became her new home.
After 20 years of marriage, Darlene went through a brutal divorce, but that did not stop her from reaching a goal that she has dreamed about since childhood. She was the only member of her family to go to college. At 40 years old, Darlene graduated with honors from Drury University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications/Public Relations. Around this time, she met the man of her dreams, Steve, and 20+ years later, still happily married. Darlene’s degree, along with her training background opened doors of opportunity at a local hospital—training EPIC, an electronic medical record (EMR). It started as only a 9-month contract position; however, this challenging career move led to a consultant position, where she traveled across the country for over 8 years training physicians, nurses, and support staff.
Darlene’s career ended abruptly when her first husband took his life. She returned home to take over as the trustee of his estate. Life happened, along with a couple of painful back surgeries. She was determined to return to work but knew standing for 10-12 hours per day in a classroom was an impossible feat. That’s when career coaching presented itself as the perfect job, working from home. Career coaching seemed like the ideal niche… and the rest is history.
Darlene has been a Certified Career Transitions Coach since 2018 and chose to add professional resume service(s) as a bonus. She also offers clerical assistance to anyone who needs a business letter or college students that do not have time to type papers. She helps people not only find a job but a career—one they are passionate about. Her own experience with personal trauma(s) provides Darlene with important insight into the struggles/barriers, not only with physical handicaps but those individuals who have difficulties moving forward. Her specialties not only include the disabled, but also high school/college students, displaced workers, and those who simply want to change careers.
Darlene’s interests include fishing, boating… anything on the water. Let’s not forget playing with Teddy, her precious Shichon (teddy bear dog)—a Shih Tzu / Bichon Frise mix!
